Iowa DED Brings Jobs to Charles City, Branstad Still Wants to Eliminate DED

Posted on Tuesday, August 31 at 10:48am

Today the Department of Economic Development announced that C.G.S. would bring a new manufacturing plant to Charles City and would create 159 jobs.

These are jobs created by the Department that Terry Branstad proposes to eliminate and  replace it with a system that has led to fraudulent jobs claims and lack of transparency in states like Indiana.

O. Kay Henderson at Radio Iowa reported:

”It’s really going to be a great shot in the arm for the community of Charles City and another sign of economic progress and job creation here in Iowa,” Culver says.

The state has extended $924,000 to the company to help retool the plant.  C.G.S. plans to spend almost $44 million to reconfigure the facility and company executives hope to being tire production by January 1, 2012. The governor says this deal has been in the works for a while.

“I actually met in my office several months ago with representatives from this company who had come all the way from the Czech Republic to meet with me and once again we were able to find common ground and create good-paying jobs,” Culver says.

There is no question that Governor Culver is helping create jobs and bring companies to Iowa. Companies are attracted to Iowa because of the significant investment that Iowa has made in infrastructure and education – both with Terry Branstad opposes.

Iowans face a choice in this election: Do continue to create jobs in Iowa or turn back to failed idea of the past?
