Message from Governor Culver: It's On

Posted on Wednesday, June 9 at 7:26am

Last night at 12:01 AM Governor Culver sent this message to supporters:

I always love Election Days. They are about people voting and making real decisions about the direction of our state and country.

But as I said after I voted today, at 12:01 AM tonight "It's On." The general election begins right now.

Terry Branstad has claimed an anti-climactic victory in the Republican primary in an attempt at a 5th term as Governor. I have said it before and now it is more clear than ever: Iowans have a clear choice.  Do we continue to build a brighter future or reach back to the failed right-wing policies of the 1980s?

I am excited to visit communities and talk about my vision for Iowa's future, and I know that Iowans will make the choice to keeping moving forward over the next five months.

I am ready to win this election with your help. Please take a minute and show your support of our campaign with a contribution on this first day of the general election.

Iowans will face a clear choice between Terry Branstad and I come November and I know Iowans will put our children an our state before tax breaks for out-of-state corporations.

Terry Branstad spent millions running ads, making untrue statements and hurling false attacks on my record, all the while telling Iowans that he is a radical right-wing Republican. He wants to take us backwards by repealing pre-school education and our historic investment into Iowa's infrastructure and even reversing our progress on civil rights, women's rights, and stem cell research.

And I am sure he will spend millions more right-wing cash on half-truths and attempts to distract people about his record. I am ready, and I need your help.

I don't believe Iowans want to throw away our triple-A bond rating. I don't believe Iowans want to turn back on four consecutive balanced budgets for someone who 'cooked the books' of Iowa.  I don't believe Iowans want to take preschool away from our children. We need new bold ideas to make the 21st Century Iowa's century.

I am going to fight to win another election come November- not for me but for all those who would be hurt be Terry's failed policies of the past.

Thank you for all your support -- and I look forward to seeing you on the campaign trail.

-- Chet
