As you can see from the photos, over 100 people packed into Iowa City’s Hamburg Inn to talk about moving Iowa forward with Governor Culver! The Governor was joined by Senators Bob Dvorsky and Joe Bolkcom, as well as Johnson County Chair Dennis Roseman, whom the Governor singled out for his hard work electing Democrats up and down the ballot.
Governor Culver received an amazing introduction from Coralville City Councilor Mitch Gross, and folks stood up and cheered when Gross talked about Governor Culver’s accomplishments for working people and the poor – signing the minimum wage increase, expanding children’s health care, and early childhood education.
Governor Culver then talked and took questions about what he’s doing to move Iowa forward. He spoke a lot about the investments we are making in the economy and in flood recovery, such as the work being done at Hancher Auditorium.
The Iowa Press Citizen declared that those in the room were “impressed.” Here’s just some of what they said to the press:
"People need to hear that again," he said of the list of Culver's accomplishments stated by supporter and Coralville councilor Mitch Gross before the governor spoke. "He's surpassed their expectations."
Ed Flaherty of Iowa City also liked what he heard, saying Culver gave "a good, rousing talk" to supporters.
"He's not backing away that this is a unique situation," Flaherty said. "The money that is being spent is being spent wisely.”
