The Des Moines Register ran a story about Governor Culver's speech at the convention titled: Culver wants to keep state moving forward. Here is some of the article:
Gov. Chet Culver told dozens of state party activists Saturday he would fight against challenger Terry Branstad's efforts to "go back to the 1980s."
Culver said Branstad, Iowa's governor from 1983 to 1999, seeks to reverse women's rights such as abortion and civil rights such as same-sex marriage.
"We want to build on our progress, not go backward. Not on my watch," said Culver, accepting the state Democratic nomination at the party convention in Des Moines.
